Flavors of ripe & powerful flavors of plums, red berries & cocoa bean. Full bodies with ample chewy but softer gentle tannins.
Oak-aging adds smoke, toast & baking spices.
Most production as a varietal comes from Chile where it's the signature grape. Used as a blending grape in small amounts in red Bordeaux blends, adding floral & green pepper aromas & flavors.
