Charbono Big;
Plum Black
Cinnamon Sticks
Worn Leather

Dark, Herbal & Chewy

Deep black purple. Aromas of violets, dark plum, black pepper, cinnamon & leather. Flavors of blue berries, black cherry, cinnamon, leather & tobacco.

Somewhat chewy yet rounded tannins with good vibrant acidity & moderate alcohol levels.

Usually lightly oaked, adding some light baking spice.

Thought originally from Piedmonte Italy but historically grown in the Savoie wine region of France. Now widely planted in Argentina (aka Bonarda).

Charbono means "sweet black" in Italian, which alludes to its very dark color & richness which can give the wine a sweetness when young, even when really bone dry.

Ages well for a long time.

Pairs great with game meat, chicken & seafood in heavy sauces. Also pairs with Dolce Gorgonzola or soft-ripened triple-cream cheeses.

This style often comes from...

California; Calistoga Napa, Monterey, Lodi, Central Valley, Sierra Foothills & Mount Veeder, Argentina (aka Bonarda with different & richer bigger style).

Best wines come from old-vine grapes, fully ripened on infertile soils in hot summers but with cool nights.
