Aromatic, Rustic & Earthy

Dark brownish red. Aromas of sweet red & black raspberry, black licorice, pomegranate & green herbs. Intense flavors of black pepper, sour cherry & pomegranate & a graphite-like minerality on the finish.

An intensely rusticly flavored, medium bodied wine with high tannins.

Oak aging adds adds smoke, toast & baking spices. Significant new oak aging smooths its texture.

Typically not a blend, but sometimes small amounts of other indigenous grapes included.

Food pairings include: Grilled Ibérico pork, blackened chicken & duck.

There are much lighter, fresher & un-oaked versions produced too.

Bierzo, Valdeorras, Ribera Sacra, Spain & Dão Portugal (aka Jaen grape).
