Meritage is a word created to sound both French & prestigious. It is used under license by wine producers to help “Brand” & sell wine. These include some very good domestic wines.

A Red Meritage is a blend of two or more of the red "noble" Bordeaux grape varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Carmenère & the rarer St. Macaire & Gros Verdot.

No single grape variety can be more than 90% of the blend.
